Funerals

Christians believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and has conquered death. He has promised that he will take all who put their trust in Him through death into eternal life.

Christian funerals are therefore marked by hope in God who gives life beyond death, thanksgiving for all that we have received from the person who has died, and prayer for those who have been left behind.

Often funeral services take place at the cemetary or cremetorium chapel and not at the church. However both St Mary Magdalene’s and St David’s are available for both funeral and memorial services.

We do recommend that, if you have not already been in touch with your local vicar when a person has died, you specifically ask your undertaker to approach your local Church of England vicar. He or she will hopefully make an effort to meet you and find out about the person who has died, so that the funeral service is personal.
